LEXINGTON PARK - 4/2/2009

The St. Mary’s County BCI investigation into the March 18, malicious destruction of property to Elm’s Beach in Lexington Park and an excavator belonging to Alva Watson Jr., resulted in the apprehension of a 17-year-old juvenile and two adult males, Mathew Scott Wentz, 23 from Hollywood and Christopher Bryan Clausen, 24 from Lexington Park.

The Juvenile was charged with theft over $500, two counts of malicious destruction of property over $500 and fourth-degree burglary. The Juvenile was released to Cheltenham Youth Facility in Cheltenham, MD.

The other two suspects, Mathew Scott Wentz and Christopher Bryan Clausen were charged with the following charges: theft over $500, two counts of malicious destruction of property over $500 and fourth-degree burglary. They were incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a hearing with the District Court Commissioner.

Other than fines and incarceration, I hope the judicial system puts them to work rebuilding the damage they did. Maybe after hours & weeks of rebuilding the park, they'll have a better appreciation of how stupid their actions were.

The police arrested these boys because they allegedly committed these crimes, I know for a fact one of them are innocent. Please watch what you say, they do have families and by the way....I am very proud of my cousin!!!!!!

A type of family that has NOT had run ins with the law, you can rest assure that his family are very concerned and doing everything in their power to get to the bottom of this! we.know these little punks,and the bad part of it is,is that neither them nor their parents have a dime or a window to throw it out of.and putting them in jail isnt going to do any good because they have all three been there,and it didnt do any good. but they still need to go in for awhile with the tough guys who like young punks like them.and if i were the commissioner,id set bail in the amount of the damage they did.100,ooo dollars instead of p.r.but we will see,how serious the system really is about this.i still say charge out of state tags because we cant get into the park on weekends and holidays and thats bull. anyone feel the same?

There seems to be alot of people on here that seem to know alot about these individuals. And alot about what went on that night in question! How do we know that you all weren't involved? Maybe you are easy to pass judgement because you are trying to cover your own asses! Maybe one of you has a problem with one these men, this would be a great way to get back at them, isn't it? Did they really put alot of time into investigating this crime, or did they single these men out? Don't get me wrong, if they are guilty of these crimes the truth will ultimately be known. But if they are innocent and are being pressumed guilty then we have a problem......

Restitution
Make them make restitution - they can stay in prison until they work off the amount they owe. That would include what was spent to catch them, the cost of their trial, transportation to the prison, and maybe even the cost of living there. All that from their daily prison salary, which is what? About $10 dollars a day or thereabouts? Does that add up to a long time? Hope so. Sucks to be you, doesn't it punk? And about that 17 year old - if he is prosecuted as a juvenile, shouldn't the two adults be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor?

One of these guys has been previously found guilty of providing alcohol to minors so charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor would be right in line! And I agree with having to make restitution if they're found guilty of the charges; wouldn't be fair to let them watch TV sitting on their butt in jail!

Isn't it amazing how fast your so called friend(s) will rat you out?? Thank goodness for that $1,000 reward. What about the business that was effected by this crime? Imagine the thousands of dollars they are losing by not being able to drill water wells because their water tanker was totalled. These little terds will probably get off with a simple slap on the wrist. Always seems to work that way. Hopefully, someone in jail will take good care of them :)

howdy folks,,,look under the maryland judiciary case search. Scum-bum #1 Wentz...multiple burglary 1st & 2nd degrees, multiple destruction of property charges, and whow...a furnishing alcohol to minor conviction..one criminal conviction among all of those cases.. Scum-bum #2 just one case of malicious destruction/scheme/over $500.00...got the hell off on that all together So, what does it take to make a judge do their job and punish these county rats. They do their dirty crimes over and over cause they are not afraid of the hotel in leonardtown..they like it...wonder if they would like the big boys up in the big house...send them on up!! They obviously will not learn their lesson here...history will repeat itself, unless you alter the present... And I don't care who they are...people don't get arrested for nothing..screw the poor little johnny lovers. bye bye, I am free, they are not...haha

I love how whenever a case like this comes up, there always seems to be at least one person who jumps in and says "He/She didn't do it! I know for a fact!" I always have to laugh, because the police do not arrest people for NO reason. The person in question may or may not have been involved in the particular incident at hand, but either they were a person of interest prior to the incident or there is some pretty hard evidence showing that they were involved. As much as people like to villify the police, 99.99% of the time they do a great job. They have rules to follow too, and they have to follow the evidence available. As hard as it may be for family/friends to believe, most of the time an accused punk is just that, a punk!

Stop using the punk to describe these young men...I find it offensive to the punk rock community. The punk community claims no ownership of these people you call punks. As a spokesman of the punk rock community I formally denounce this act of vandalism. Punks would rather get drunk and talk about the government than play with an excavator at a playground...thats something the rednecks do during the post-football season. Also, I knew one of them in elementary and middle school and know they come from a good family...and was probably one of the nicest people I knew back then. But nope...not punk rock.

Why are we in such a hurry to pass judgement on others? I thought in this country we were all presumed innocent until proven guilty? If that is true, Prove to me that they are all guilty of these horrible crimes! Or are they only guilty of being at the wrong place at the wrong time? As for the families of the three individuals, I feel sorry for them! Because all of you are so easily blame without knowing all the facts. Have we never arrested the wrong people? Sure we have. The truth is they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and they messed with the wrong peoples personally property. The excavator belongs to someone in my family. Before going to Elms beach they totalled a 50k truck belonging to Watson and Johnson Well Drilling. A business is unable to work because of these scum bag losers, and some of you have the nerve to defend these losers. If your defending them, your probably a loser just like them. They were narced out by a person that knows them all personally and they were stupid enough to brag about it. Im sure some of you know one of them is not guilty, were you with this person that night? Because if you were, you were sitting next to them on an excavator as it trashed a 150k dollar playground paid for with tax payers money and you should be arrested too. As for the cops being quick to arrest, they were narced out a day after the incident and not arrested until 15 days later. The cops did their research and did a damn good job and were very thorough in makinig sure they had their facts straight before arresting anyone.

About this Arrest
A little "Law 101": Police do NOT arbitrarily arrest people they "think" have committed a crime. If the police witness a crime they can arrest on the spot. If the police don't witness the crime, they can't legally arrest anybody unless they have a warrant. The warrant is issued based upon testimony and/or evidence submitted to a court official, such as the State's Attorney. Once the police have a warrant to arrest somebody, they have no choice in the matter. It is their duty to perform the arrest. And that is what they did in this case … they arrested three idiots who had a warrant issued for their arrest based upon evidence submitted to impartial state officials. That very same evidence, plus probably more, will be used against them in a court of law. And all the whining by the friends and family mean diddly-squat in a court of law.

My son was innocent but in turn for doing the right thing he was arrested and booked. At the end of the court proceeding he was found "Not Involved" in the crime's commited and case dismissed. But my tax payer money and your's was waisted on an innocent person being prosecuted for a crime he "DIDNT COMMIT" so how's that for your "Hard Evidence" and yes they do arrest people based on hear say... You have not walked in my shoe's and you dont know what our family went through with the MSP in St Mary's County. So how about you go drink a big cup of "Shut the #* up" until you know the facts about my situation or anyone elses for that matter. You opinionated a****s get on here and talk about everyone like you were there first hand. If you had it your way they would all be tried and convicted right here on thebaynet.com What ever the case maybe in this particular situation. I am sure it will all be resolved. I dont take up for anyone if they are guilty. And as I told my son, if he was guilty of a crime I wouldnt defend him. But I knew he was innocent and so I did everything in my power as a mom to see that my son was not prosecuted for a crime he didnt commit.

Just an FYI for everyone out here.
The boy who is possibly innocent might just be that. My son went through a similar incident. He turned in the person who did all the breakin's around our neighborhood and because he knew who did it and he told the Police who it was he was arrested as well. I was floored by the whole thing. He did the right thing by turning in the boy and then was arrested for knowing the information that he knew. So maybe the one boy is innocent. and if he is he will be vindicated. but its the hell the family has to go through before he is found innocent. I lost time at work for having to run back and forth to court all for the courts to finally decide that he was "NOT INVOLVED" It was a nightmare for our family to have to go through all that. So all of you people on here passing judgement on the girl or guy who is defending the boy by saying he is innocent, give them a chance to prove his innocense.

Just an F.Y.I. to you Escape.... It doesn't matter wether or not the 'alleged' innocent male was only arrested for knowing, then turning the other 2 in. The fact of the matter is that this crime happened well over 2 weeks ago. And, when reporting a crime, you have the choice to remain anonymous, and usually, if all they have is word of mouth from ONE other person, the police are NOT going to make an arrest on here-say. It's flimsy, and wouldn't hold up in court. The police has to have hard evidence for the D.A. to aquire a warrant for arrest. If all they have is a statement from one person, the D.A. is not going to waste their time, resources, and money on a case that they didn't have a shot at winning. In way one or another ... all 3 of them had something to do with it.

I like the cut of your jib...however, I don't hate Southern Maryland, I've lived here all my life. I love it for its history, certain traditions (like stuffed ham and waterman), and some of the people. New Jersey on the other hand, I'm not so sure about...then again all I've ever seen of NJ are pharmaceutical and chemical plants along I-95, so I'm not going to criticize and pass judgment on a place I know relatively nothing about.

Seriously, teenage style vandalism would be spray painting graffiti or breaking a few windows. There is over $100K in damages and lost revenue for a business which is even tougher in these economic times. While I would agree with you that they don't need to be beat senseless, or locked up for life, the guilty ones should be properly punished and made to pay restitution. Fair is fair.

You try to make things better for people in the county but it seems some people feel a need to try and ruin it for everyone. I hope the judge is very unsympathic, and these guys (for lack of a better description of them) have to pay full restitution and then some for the repairs. Kudos to our law enforcement officials for their apprehension.

Why is it we are so quickly to blame the families and prejudge them for something two adults and a minor did? They are all old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. If the three are in fact guilty then they will have to walk that path. But the families are not to blame!!

Its no secret I believe in the innocence of one of these men! If I am proven wrong, I will be very disappointed. This was a very bad thing that should've never taken place. Now all we can do is move forward. It does no good to sit here and trash each other, it just goes to show what type of people we have become. I know I have done my fair share. I am sorry for that. I am firm believer that if you are willing to do the crime you must do the time. But there must be no question as to guilt first. If there are still unanswered question then I am not convinvced yet... I feel sorrow for all the families and friends of these individuals who are being drug through the mud, and harrased for the actions of another. It is this type of behavior that from our Media and Communities that sickens me..

Whether these guys did this or not... You all that keep calling them "boys"... Have you not realized only one of them is actually a boy. These were GROWN MEN, that know better then to steal, ruin a truck, and demolish a park!! And even the boy in this case is old enough to know better!!! If in fact they are found guilty I would love for them to be punished to the fullest extent and then some. Elms Beach is my family's favorite park. Hands down the safest and most accomadating park in our area. My children and I were greatly disappointed to hear the news of this happening since we had plans to go opening day!
