UPDATE: Firefighters Busy Battling Raging Blaze

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, investigation revealed the fire began on the first floor in the living room. An electrical malfunction of the power strip behind the recliner caused the fire. The occupants were displaced and are being assisted by family members. There were no reported injuries.
Damage to the home is estimated at $70,000.
Over 40 firefighters from St. Mary's County were busy battling a raging house fire in Drayden post Christmas.
Fire and rescue crews responded to the 18500 block of Windmill Point Road around 4:15 a.m. on Dec. 26 for report of a working house fire.
Crews arrived on the scene to discover heavy fire and smoke showing from the two-story home. After about twenty minutes of firefighting operations, firefighters were ordered to evacuate the structure.
No injuries were reported. Firefighters were able to clear the scene shortly before 7 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
