Man Jailed After Failing Field Sobriety Test

On December 31, 2010 at 1:41a.m., TFC M. J. Pitcher observed a red Saab passenger vehicle that appeared to be unoccupied in the travel portion in the area of Maryland Route 235 and MacArthur Boulevard.
Upon approaching the vehicle, TFC Pitcher made contact with James Miles Callis, 50 of Lexington Park, who appeared to be intoxicated. Callis exited the vehicle for a field sobriety test, which he was unable to complete, subsequently being arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
While attempting to safely secure Callis’ vehicle, TFC Pitcher observed in plain view an open container as well as controlled medication that was not prescribed to Callis. Mr. Callis was transported to the Leonardtown Barrack for DUI processing and then transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
