Driving While Impaired, Assault, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance

On August 29, 2011, numerous calls were received for a Chevrolet Blazer swerving all over the road in the Mechanicsville area.The vehicle was located in a parking lot off Old Village Road by Dfc William Watters.The operator was identified as Michele S. Mccurry 33 years old of Chaptico.Mccurry displayed signs of impairment and took several field sobriety tests for which she performed poorly and was arrested.During a search of Mccurry, she was found in possession of a pill of Oxycodone Hydrochloride for which she did not have a prescription.While Mccurry was handcuffed in the rear seat of the patrol car she slipped out of the handcuffs.Dfc Watters and Cpl Connelly removed Mccurry from the vehicle to refasten the cuffs and she became combative kicking both Dfc Watters and Cpl Brian Connelly.Mccurry was charged with Driving While Impaired, Assault, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

Looks like her head took the brunt end of a police flashlight! I hope it's just the drugs. No one should look so strung out all the time.

if you dont know her then dont judge her. i have known this woman for some time now and i know that she has alot on her plate right now. she is a very good woman and will do anything she can for you. she has been through alot and all of your comments are not needed..... so until you know her or what she has been through dont judge....

I'm sorry, I know quite a few people who "have a lot on their plate" and have not resorted to drugs and alcohol. Especially in these trying times. If you make excuses for people who do these things, than you are an "enabler"

I wonder how understanding all4icca would be, if, while driving impaired, Ms. Mccurry had hit and killed a family member of theirs?

i am not saying what she was doing was right.. by no means should she have been driving like that. i am a mother of 4 and also a person who lost my sister in a car accident due to another persons stupidity! i guess i should have stressed that in my other posting... i dont think people should try to hide their problems by alcohol or drugs and i am totally against that type of stuff. i am just saying that she is a good person and just maybe she isnt thinking right right now. no excuses for her at all..... so my apologies to you all... but some of the rude comments on here about her arent needed....

I don't feel sorry for people, who make their own path and cause their own trouble! She is very lucky (or rather, I should say, the public is so lucky), that she didn't hurt anyone by causing an accident being under the influence! To top it off, physically fighting with the police, that definitely didn't help her case, any! No doubt she needs rehabilitation! She will be out there again, doing the same thing! Sad!

Hopefully she gets better. Speaking as a recovering addict myself (was a heavy opiate user, cleaned up my act about 4 years ago) you shouldnt have to feel sorry for these people, but definately realize that these people have a disease and hopefully they can get the support/willpower they need to change their ways. Most addicts start out as normal people with jobs/familes just like anyone else but their addiction ruins their life. Im a really nice guy and wouldnt hurt a fly but when i was using id rob my own mother to get a fix.
The one thing i DONT get though is why these people choose to drive intoxicated. Even when i was strung out i knew not to get behind a wheel because i knew there was a strong possibility id crash my car or hurt someone. If you folks HAVE to drink or use PLEASE don't get behind a wheel, you may get away safely this time, but keep on doing it and youre gonna be screwed.

I'm sorry, I know alot of people think that drug & alcohol addiction is a disease. I dont think of it that way. Drugs and alcohol are something you choose to do. If its a disease, than its a self imposed disease and I dont feel the least bit sorry for you. Too many other good people out there struggle everyday to do the right thing without resorting to drugs and alcohol. The problem I have is that the users will get help by way of government assistance, while the people who choose to do the right thing cant get any help because they dont have an addiction. Talk about a catch 22.

I agree you shouldnt feel sorry for people. And yes it certainly is a choice but the point im trying to make is that not all addicts are homeless/unproductive bums, nor does being an addict necessarily make them "bad". Just as not all alcoholics are out sitting on the corner with whiskey in a paper bag. Not all users get government money either i came from a good family with a good upbringing with parents that loved and cared about me. I was a teenager who wanted to be cool and started experimenting with cocaine and my silly teenage self thought well, the dare program and society overexaggerate about the "dangers" of marijuana, maybe they were lying to me about cocaine and pills too. And unfortunately a few years passed where i wasted almost all my money (that i worked 2 jobs for to support my habit) and had to go to the hospital twice before i woke up. Addicts need to hit rock bottom and realize how messed up their life is because of drugs in order for them to want to get better. When i saw my parents crying and i knew i lost my job, and my heart was racing due to a cocaine overdose i knew i had to stop. You realize nothing good came from my use and i wanted to be a person again. I was a good guy before, played sports, was active and volunteered for my parents church etc and now im sittin in a hospital praying to stay alive. Addiction can turn a normal person into a zombie. It definately is a disease. Now i have a fiance have been sober from everything for a few years now, have a good career with benefits and even own my own home (never thought that would happen years ago!) and i feel empathy for people like this lady here because ive been there.

I understand your frustration that people are in and out of the system and waste tax payer dollars but maybe thats a sign our system needs a change. We should really focus on rehabilitation more than incarceration. The system we have with locking addicts up doesnt seem to be working that well, put a person in a cage and what do you think they'll do the second they get out? use. Im not saying rehab works for everyone but perhaps nonviolent addicts should be in a inpatient rehab facility than in a jailcell, and if they continuiously screw up, then lock em up.
