Blue Crabs and Cowboy Monkeys in St. Charles
Waldorf, MD - 6/23/2012
By Andy Marquis
Matt Padget scores a run for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs off a Paco Figueroa RBI in the bottom of the fifth inning during Thursday night's game against the Somerset Patriots.
The Cowboy Monkeys stole the show at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf on Thursday night following a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-3 win over the Somerset Patriots. With their win, the Blue Crabs improved to 26-27 to catapult in to second in the Liberty Division standings.
The game started with one of the monkeys throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. During the middle of the sixth inning and after the game, the dog riding, goat herding Cowboy Monkeys took their act to the stage. Almost all of the 4,981 fans in attendance waited out the heat, which was in the lower-90s during the game, to see the act.
Paco Figueroa hit three RBIs while Chin-Lung Hu and Mike Daniel hit RBIs in the Blue Crabs’ 5-3 win.
Earlier in the year, the Blue Crabs had invited NFL superstar Tim Tebow to throw out the first pitch at the June 21st game. The Cowboy Monkeys had performed at a Denver Broncos game at Mile High Stadium in 2011. Tebow, who now plays for the New York Jets, did not attend.
