Calvert County Democratic Central Committee Chair Marie Duffield issued the following statement after Delegate Mark Fisher, a staunch ally and close supporter of GOP Congressional candidate Tony O’Donnell, called President Obama a “Marxist” at a Tea Party Rally:
“We call on Tony O’Donnell to renounce Mark Fisher’s extreme right-wing, Tea Party comments. If he does not disassociate himself from this kind of rhetoric from one of his close friends and allies, then he stands in agreement with it.
“Maryland voters are looking for campaigns that seek the higher ground, in lieu of name calling and inflammatory accusations. By having Mark Fisher serve as a key surrogate, O’Donnell is allowing this kind of baseless attack on our President stand.
“Rather than focusing on getting more Americans back to work, Tony O’Donnell is following the example of Michelle Bachmann, Allen West and Donald Trump, and lobbing unfounded attacks on President Obama instead of offering solutions.
“President Obama and Congressman Hoyer have worked together to create an economy where hard work pays off and you can make it if you try. Under their leadership, we have created 4.5 million jobs - 500,000 in manufacturing - over the last 29 months. More must be done to move our recovery forward, which is why Congressman Hoyer is working to enact middle class tax cuts and pass Make It In America jobs legislation. Marylanders want leaders in Washington who will move our economy forward and build the middle class, which is why President Obama and Congressman Hoyer will be reelected in November.”
