Finding Your Passion in Life
HUNTINGTOWN - 5/14/2008

Reporter’s Note: Last winter, Bay Media Services and The Bay Net published their first ever year in review magazine, which was distributed widely throughout the Tri-County area. In that publishing effort, certain photographic images were used that were in the public domain and copyright free. However, we received a call from Jenna Licurgo asking how her pictures wound up in our publications. We thought it would be interesting to talk with Licurgo to see what was going on. Jenna Licurgo, as it turns out, is an amateur photographer with a passion for all things natural and beautiful about the world around her. She and her husband currently own and operate Open Gates Farm Bed & Breakfast in Huntingtown. Licurgo is the main proprietor of the single suite B&B while her husband concentrates on furniture repair and restoration. “We bought this property 11 years ago and took our time and turned it into a beautiful home,” Licurgo said. She indicated that they have been in the Bed and Breakfast business for only a couple of years, but that, with the exception of this past winter, they have been booked since opening. Licurgo lamented that since February they have had no bookings. “We talked with other Bed and Breakfast people in the area and they are having the same problem.” She stated that the only thing they can imagine is that with the price of gas people are just not traveling as far from home. When asked about her beautiful photography, Licurgo stated, “I have always wanted to pursue photography, but with the price of film and developing, I never really did too much.” When her husband asked her what she really wanted one day, Licurgo said, “A good digital camera.” Now the budding photographer never leaves home without the camera and takes pictures wherever she sees something interesting. Included with this article are some pictures she has taken. She stated that the reason The Bay Net probably found her photography was because of three different photography contests she entered. "I had to sign a release and never heard back from anyone. I was surprised to see my pictures in print in your magazines." Readers that wish to know more about her photography or the Open Gates Farm B&B need only to visit the website www.opengatesfarm.com. |
