Historic St. Mary's City by Dispatches from HSMC
Fall in Historic08/18/2006Viewed 145 times Fall is a special season at Historic St. Mary’s City, one of America’s most beautiful historic places. It’s the season for wildflowers, wild fowl, and knockout vistas of fall foliage reflected in the St. Mary’s River. Autumn hours kick in on September 19 (Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.), and all of the living history exhibits will be open through November 25. As the 2006 season winds down, the museum will host two special events that spotlight different aspects of the colonial experience. On Saturday, October 21, the St. Maries Citty Militia will be in town. Modern day visitors are invited to join them for a day of competitions, drills, and pageantry. At the Grand Militia Muster, kids—and the young at heart—can learn how to drill with faux guns and pikes, help make corncakes over the fire, play 17th-century games, and try on clothing much like the colonists wore. Special Muster activities will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The 2006 season will close with Hearth and Home in Early Maryland, following Thanksgiving on Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Visitors can try the tasks that allowed the colonists and Woodland Indians to weather the winter in the years before grocery and department stores. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, $3.50 for kids from 6-12 years, and free for younger children.
