A (Possibly) Very Serious Situation 6/4/2008 3:12 PM EST This is to inform everyone of a very serious situation that affects everyone in the tri-county area. A very severe line of storms is coming from the west and it is advised that everyone should take cover and seek extreme safety somewhere. It would appear this line of storms is not one to fool with, according to the NWS and a few other sources. The official advisories: Tornado Watch 447 remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for the following locations MD . Maryland counties included are Allegany Anne Arundel Baltimore Calvert Carroll Charles Frederick Harford Howard Montgomery Prince Georges St. Marys Washington Maryland independent cities included are Baltimore City The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... District of Columbia Anne Arundel County in central Maryland... Howard County in central Maryland... eastern Montgomery County in central Maryland... Prince Georges County in central Maryland... Carroll County in north central Maryland... northeastern Frederick County in north central Maryland... Baltimore County in northern Maryland... Baltimore City in northern Maryland... Arlington County in northern Virginia... City of Alexandria in northern Virginia... City of Falls Church in northern Virginia... eastern Fairfax County in northern Virginia... extreme southeastern Prince William County in northern Virginia... Calvert County in southern Maryland... Charles County in southern Maryland... St. Marys County in southern Maryland... * until 415 PM EDT * at 251 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms... and moving east at 58 mph. * Locations impacted include... the entire Washington and Baltimore Metro areas... This is a dangerous storm with extreme winds over a large area. Take cover now! Damaging winds are likely with these storms... move to a safe place now. Mobile homes and vehicles are especially susceptible to high winds and may be overturned. A Tornado Watch is in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop suddenly from severe thunderstorms. Be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions as storms approach. ... Moderate risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon... At noon... line of thunderstorms was approaching Morgantown and Charlestown West Virginia. At this pace... they should near the Appalachians between 1 and 2 PM... and the Blue Ridge between by 3 PM. These thunderstorms should move through the Interstate 95 corridor... including the greater Baltimore and Washington Metro area and across the Chesapeake Bay between 4 PM and 7 PM. The atmosphere is favorable for severe thunderstorms today. Damaging straight line winds and large hail are the greatest threats... but there is also a risk for isolated tornadoes. Heavy rainfall and continuous cloud to ground lightning will be common with these storms. Please, do take this serious. They are fastly approaching, and the estimated hit time for St. Marys county is 3:45.
