Re: Re: night life in St. Mary's 3/23/2009 12:40 PM EST { In reply to erc_ } Haha... It should pick up a little now that the weather is getting a little better. I remember when I was younger (and did got out) that the summer was much better. More bands, more dancing, etc. During the summer BackRoad Inn in St. Clements have a different band every weekend. I went there once last summer and they had a band from PA and they were really good. Had a great time. I'm not sure what else is out there anymore, only what ends up as a story in TheBayNet.

Re: Re: night life in St. Mary's 3/26/2009 9:34 AM EST { In reply to valhalla } Cow tipping?? You must have watched the movie Tommy Boy right? I've lived in St. Mary's all my life and I can honestly say that I have never been nor have I had the desire to go cow tipping. Is it even possible, really? We have the normal things here that I guess you would consider redneck (bars, sports, bingo, keno etc.) but there are other things as well. There is a putt putt golf in Prince Frederick (good for families) and there's one on Mervell Dean Road as well and it used to have batting cages but I haven't been there in a while so I'm not sure if it's still there. There is a pool and with fun slides on Cove Point Road in Calvert County. Anne Marie Gardens is a great place to go to get some culture. I believe they have wine tasting and art galleries. The boardwalk at Solomons is beautiful in the spring. If you want to take a day trip you can ride to D.C. on the metro and take in the memorials and museums. If you want to get outdoors but don't want to go to far, Point Lookout has camp grounds that is not too far from home. There is a bowling alley in Calvert that is alot of fun. It has better hours then the one in St. Mary's. And of course there are the movies. My kids like to go to the Great Mills pool. Even though it's not in the best of neighborhoods, I've never had any problems there. Another place I love to go is Flag Ponds about 10 minutes from the bridge in Calvert. The park is beautiful, full of birds and wildlife. After a short walk you get to a beach that has a great view and you can search for fossils. I find shark teeth everytime we go. The last time we went I found a whale vertibrae. My kids thought it was cool a addition to their collection of fossils. The Calvert Marine Museum is a great place to visit. I love to watch the otters, Splash and Bubbles. They have the lighthouse in the back that you can go inside. They also have kayaks as well. There is a dinner cruise that is also based out of Solomons but I can't remember the name of the boat. (All you would have to do is google dinner cruise in solomons.) Something else to do is concerts. Now you will have to travel to D.C. or Baltimore but it is definitely worth it. The 9:30 club is in D.C. and is easy to get to. The Brass Monkey in Baltimore is also a small venue that has bands. Jaxxs in Virginia is another good place. There are many others you just have to do a search on the net. There was a comedy club in Waldorf at one point and it closed for a while and was supposed to re-open but I have checked into that. Those are just a few things off the top of my head that I can think of. I'm sure if you do some research there will be other things that will come up. When someone complains about nightlife in St. Mary's and doesn't want to go to a "redneck" bar I completely understand. It gets really old and not much of an option when you have a family. My suggestion is to fill up your days with new and fun stuff. Then you can spend you nights resting.

Re: Re: Re: night life in St. Mary's 3/27/2009 5:34 PM EST { In reply to mom-of-3 } yes every place has bars and plaza shopping, but what seperates st. mary's is the people and their backwards Characteristics. I have been to places like ABC bar Donavons and other bars and social events around this county, there all barns and the people look like they could be in a wal-mart commercial dedadeee ugly. I like to live in the 21st century and go places with fun and pretty people like ANYWHERE BUT HERE BUT SPECIFICALLY ARLINGTON VA OR GEORGETOWN.
