Sad St. Mary's Student Severely Beaten
1/29/2006 8:53 PM EST

A first-year student at St. Mary's College, Justin Lonsdale, was the victim of an unprovoked attack early Saturday morning while visiting Virginia Tech, said the assistant dean at the college.

The College, which has been in contact with the Blacksburg Police Department, confirmed today thatt an arrest has been made.

Justin underwent surgery in Roanoke and is currently in critical condition, according to assistant dean, Joanne Goldwater. His parents travelled to be with him this morning, and ask that you keep Justin in your thoughts and prayers.

Justin was visiting friends at Virginia Tech when he was assaulted outside a college party by member(s) of a fraternity.

We will update you as soon as more information is available.

No, a while back a group of police did arrest people on the St. Mary's campus and teargas everyone they could reach, after someone threw a rock at one of their cars. That's what I believe happened.
Students just walking around got sprayed with gas - bit of a scandal.

No-one beat him up, did they, Al?

Justin Lonsdale's family expressed thanks to the community for the interest in Justin's condition.

"We have been told that Justin will have good days and bad days during his long recuperation. We hope that he will be ready to return to school for the fall semester." Said Mike Freeman, dean of St. Mary's College.
