Cover Photo Contest for Local Magazine

The Southern Maryland Wedding Guide is looking for a local couple to be on the cover of an exciting new edition of its twice-yearly magazine. "We're going green for our Winter/Spring edition," said Kimberly Bean, founder and CEO of the wedding guide. "We're planning an all-digital magazine that couples can read online, download or get on DVD."  The digital magazine will have audio, video and live email and Web site links, allowing brides to contact advertisers they're interested in right away. The magazine will also have all of the features that have made it popular with area brides: wedding trends stories and planning ideas, real local weddings, planning pages and a guide to Southern Maryland reception sites. "I'm very excited about the new technology we'll be using to bring this magazine to Southern Maryland brides," Bean said.  "A magazine this unique needs a special couple for its cover," she added, "and we're hoping to find them through our cover picture contest." Couples who were married in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties in 2007 or 2008 are eligible to enter. They may submit up to two color, vertical photographs to www.SoMdWeddings.com. Photographs must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5. A panel of judges will select their favorite entries, and those entries will be posted on www.SoMdWeddings.com to be voted on by readers from Dec. 8 through 12.   "I expect some heavy lobbying from the brides whose photographs are chosen," Bean said. "In the past, they've contacted their friends, families and coworkers asking for votes." Typically, about 1,000 votes are cast, Bean said.   In addition to gracing the cover, the winners' love story will also be featured inside the magazine along with pictures from their wedding. LaTrice and Stephan Byam, who were married May 2, at Herrington on the Bay, were the winners of the magazine's most recent contest. Their romantic photograph, taken by Leo Hein Photography, is on the cover of the Summer/Fall print edition of The Southern Maryland Wedding Guide magazine. SoMdWeddings.com debuted in December 2002 and averages 40,000 to 50,000 page views per month. At the site, visitors can search the site's directory of more than 800 local wedding service providers, including caterers, reception sites, photographers, florists, party rentals and others. The site also features real Southern Maryland weddings, engagement announcements, wedding trend articles and resources.
