Woman Dies After Being Struck at Bus Stop

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the death of a woman who was struck by a car in White Plains. Investigation revealed on Nov. 26 at 7:58 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers and Maryland State Police responded to Crain Highway at McConnell Place for the report of a motor vehicle accident in which a pedestrian was struck.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Michelle Thornton, 49 of Mechanicsville, in the roadway. She had been struck by a car and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was waiting at a bus stop with her boyfriend when the two started arguing. During the argument, the victim was struck by a car traveling north on Crain Highway. The driver of the vehicle stopped and waited until police arrived. The boyfriend, 39 of Mechanicsville, was located on the scene. The circumstances in which the victim was struck are under investigation.
