Get all your rowdy friends together this Saturday, May 23, and welcome American icon, Hank Williams, Jr. at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, The iconoclastic country singer will perform live on the pavilion stage at 7:30 p.m. Williams’ classic hits include Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound, All My Rowdy Friends, Old Habits, and Born to Boogie. Tickets are still available and may be purchased by visting www.calvertmarinemuseum.com or by calling 1-800-787-9454. Tickets are $55 for premium seats and $45 for reserved; additional service fees apply.
Born May 26, 1949, William Jr.’s father nicknamed him “Bocephus” after the ventriloquist dummy used by country comedian, Rod Brasfield. Bocephus made his debut on the Grand Ole Oprey at age 11. By the time he was 14, he recorded his first hit record, a rendition of his father’s Long Gone Lonesome Blues. The song displayed the performer’s honesty, integrity and strength mixed with vulnerability that would become cornerstones of Williams’ artistry.
Williams successfully emerged from his famous father’s shadow, advancing a career of his own with his classic hits. His music has reflected both our nation’s challenges and the resilience of the human spirit with A Country Boy Can Survive. In 1990, Williams won even more fans throughout the country with his roar on the camera of Are You Ready for Some Football? before ABC’s Monday Night Football games. This earned Williams the distinction of being the first country artist ever to win an Emmy Award.
Those that know Williams’ legend know that it has not been an easy road. He faces life head on and even when it hurts, he keeps up the fight. Williams has been the voice of the common man with music that not only reflects his own life, but the common experiences that unite his fans.
Without the generous support of the following businesses, this event would not be possible. Waterside 2009 sponsors are Cumberland & Erly, LLC, Prince Frederick Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge, Bozick Distributors, All American Harley-Davidson, Greene Turtle, Quality Built Homes, Isaac’s Restaurant, PaPa John’s Pizza, The McNelis Group, DM Group, 98 Star FM, Southern Maryland Newspapers, Bay Weekly, Calvert Independent, Quick Connections, Comcast, Roy Rogers-Solomons, and the Holiday Inn Select-Solomons.
