The Calvert Marine Museum joins hundreds of museums around the world celebrating International Museum Day on Monday, May 18, with free admission to all visitors. International Museum Day has been celebrated all over the world since 1977 to encourage awareness about the roles of museums in the development of society. The 2009 theme is “Museums and Tourism.” The Calvert Marine Museum offers visitors the opportunity to learn and explore how our prehistoric past, natural environments, and maritime heritage come together to tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. The museum offers hands-on activities, aquariums, and exhibits for visitors of all ages. Don’t miss the shopping experience in our Museum Store! The museum will be open regular hours on International Museum Day, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours of the Drum Point Lighthouse will be scheduled throughout the day. For a complete listing of museum events, activities, and programs, visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com or call (410) 326-2042 ext. 17 for more information.
