Hughesville Family Displaced by Garage Fire

Maryland State Fire Marshall's are investigating a house fire that left $500,000 in damage to a two-story home and two vehicles in Hughesville.
Over 50 firefighters from Benedict, Hughesville, Prince Frederick, Baden, Waldorf and Mechanicsville responded to the report of a house fire in the 6200 block of Cockburn Place around 8:05 p.m. on June 1.
Crews arrived on the scene after a fire was dicovered in the garage by the homeowner. Investigation revealed the homeowner had returned home and parked his vehicle inside the garage. He was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm sounding a short time later. Further investigation revealed the fire started within the engine compartment of the vehicle parked inside the attached garage.
The homeowners were displaced and are being assisted by family members.
No injuries were reported.
