Department of Aging Senior Spotlight Activities June 19 thru June 26 Tickets still available for a summer Pre-Fourth of July Party, but don't delay, deadline is Friday, June 19. This is a great opportunity to meet some fine folks having a good time or to bring your own friends along. The Pre-Fourth of July Party is held on Wednesday, July 1, at 9 a.m. at the Northern Senior Activity Center in Charlotte Hall. The requested donation of $8 per person is a fantastic deal with morning refreshments, two entertainment acts, games and prizes and door prizes, not to mention a hearty meal of fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, cole slaw, baked beans, strawberry shortcake, coffee and tea. The event is presented by the Northern Senior Activity Center Council and the St. Mary's County Department of Aging. If interested, call 301.475.1002, ext. 1001. The St. Mary’s County Department of Aging’s Kayak Class scheduled for June 18 & 19 has been rescheduled for June 25 & 26. This class is designed specifically for seniors with an emphasis on safety, enjoyment, and skill acquisition. The class will be led by a certified instructor. The first session is a land-based seminar at the Garvey Senior Activity Center and covers topics such as safety, equipment, techniques and trip planning. The second session is a skills class to be held at Camp Calvert Landing at the end of Camp Calvert Road in Leonardtown. Participants will learn and practice self-rescue techniques, strokes, and maneuvers. Cost is $50. Call 301.475.4200, ext. 1050 for more information. Northern Senior Activity Center On Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m., an additional bingo will be held at the Northern Senior Activity Center. Cost is $1.50 for two bingo cards. Walk-ins are welcome. To reserve lunch visit the center by noon on Friday, June 19, to make a donation for a meal ticket. Cost is by donation for seniors 60 and older; $5 for individuals under 60. Garvey Senior Activity Center On Thursday, June 25 at 12:30 p.m. the Garvey Senior Activity Center will serve a staff-cooked meal of pork barbeque sandwiches, cole slaw, three-bean salad, ice cream with mandarin orange slices, and milk/tea/coffee. The cost is by donation for those 60 and above and $5.00 for those under the age of 60. Call 301.475.4200, ext. 1050 to make reservations. Loffler Senior Activity Center Celebrate America’s birthday at Loffler Senior Activity Center on Thursday, July 2 at 10 a.m. with a game or two of INDOOR horseshoes which are MUCH lighter than standard size. We can enjoy cool temperatures while celebrating a hot holiday! This event also features patriotic music and refreshments that will include watermelon and patriotic punch.
