On July 11, families made their way to the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons for the wildly popular Sharkfest!  With affordable admission, the exhibits and experiences drew a large crowd.  Many visitors said they had come to the event in previous years and were back for more. 

The Sharkpoole Experience was a big attraction, as kids and adults got to see and touch live sharks up close.  Doug Poole, his wife and two kids donned wetsuits and hung out inside the 12 foot tank and handled the sharks and rays.  Poole explained that all of the creatures in the exhibit were captured in nearby waters and will be returned unharmed.

Families were also treated to free canoe rides beneath the lighthouse, an opportunity to make their mark on the large mural that will decorate the CMM entrance, and many other hands-on activities.  Fossils, dissected sharks, and native marine life were on display.  Fish face painting was a treat for the kids, as was the discovery room and the always entertaining otters.

Knowledgeable volunteers brought exhibits outside to those waiting in the admissions line and The Green Turtle and Papa John's were on hand serving up fresh lunch. With so much to see and learn about, Sharkfest! proved to be a great family event.  Many became museum members after seeing what CMM has to offer and many can't wait for this event to return.
