Wife Murders Husband During Dispute

BRYANS ROAD - 7/22/2009

On July 20 at 8:12 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Marshall Hall Road in Bryans Road for the reported shooting.

The investigation revealed Janet Cabezas, 51, shot her husband, Steven Cabezas, 54, during a dispute in their home. Janet Cabezas notified a relative, who called police. Janet Cabezas remained at the scene and officers quickly took her into custody.

She was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Steven Cabezas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Runs in the family
According to the Maryland Judiciary Case website, domestic violence runs in the family. After looking at the website, it looks as if he beat his 1st wife and she divorced him. Not sure why the 2nd one didn't leave his sorry butt. I have NO tolerance for men who beat their sufficient others.

The first thing I thought when I heard the woman had shot him is I bet he hits her and sure enough, the site showed his history of domestic violence. While I dont believe he should have been killed,I can understand her retaliation in that way. I agree and have no tolerance for abuse of any kind, especially against women, but they feel trapped I'm sure. I guess he wont be hitting her anymore, will he ?

It doesn't matter what his past was, she does not have the right to shoot ANYONE! The cops are there for a reason, if she made the choice to pick up a gun and shoot her husband instead of a picking up phone to call and report him that makes her fully responsible for everything that occured that day. I have been in an abusive relationship in the past, the worse thing that you can do is correct violence with more violence, leaving and/or reporting the person is the only logical answer. Taking the law into your own hands is never acceptable in any circumstance. I hope that she has to serve the full sentence for these charges and that Charles County use her as the "poster child" for what NOT to do in a domestic abuse situation.

I know that in these times it is somewhat natural to asssume that the woman is innocent, but in this case that is not true. As a close friend of the family, I know for a fact that Steve Cabezas was not a violent man and I also know that she was extremely violent. There were many legal claims filed but she never pursued them becase she used them as a weapon against a very good man. This was the sort of man you could call in the middle of the night because you had a busted pipe and just becuase you were his friend he would crawl out of bed and come help. He was the kind of man who taught his some to love and care for nature. He was the kind of man who loved his step children as much as he did his own flesh and blood and took his grandkids with him everywhere. The world is much bleaker place without Steve Cabezas and his mother and his son are at a loss of how to continue their lives without him. So be cautious how you blame and accuse before you have all the facts. Remember that his family will be reading your hurtful words.

I'm always amazed to hear people make statements without any facts to base the tough wag! My personal evaluations reflect these persons are the first to create untruthful commotion & lies just for no more than to have something to say! These persons, such as yourself, have little ability to understand the importance to know facts before you release that sword of a tongue! I personally witnessed the ugly attitude of this wife that shoot her husband. Furthermore, I too come from a place of "the Battered Woman Syndrom" & I can attest to the fact that an abused woman does not in any way tempt to misbehave in front of her abusive husband as she constantly did. I have known persons like yourself, wanting no further association with them & I have had the True Blessing to have known this man that you stupidly make false accusations about! (Deleted)(wife) had avenues & time to move, file for divorce,etc.. with family & her friends to help, IF SHE REALLY WANTED TO GET AWAY. Know your facts before you spread ugly rumors, especially of those you don't know! Sleep Well.....

I happen to know the first wife personally, who is terribly upset over the loss of a dear friend as well as father of her son. She also informed me that they were very young when they were married, and she was more aggressive than he was back then. He would get in his truck and leave when they had a disagreement. I dont know what you have found, but I know from my conversation with her the other day, that this is a man who will be greatly missed by many. And there is always more to a story than what is posted in the papers.

let me first say thank you for telling the truth smww i am the first wife and i can tell you first hand he didnt hit this woman .he was shot in the back so before you all sit and gossip about someone you dont know try and think to yourself who reads this.my son is dealing with the death of his dad and to have people judge him without knowing him is wrong .so please wait for the court system to handle this... thank you dora

This lady and her family should be put away,janet shoots, murders, Steve Cabezas by shooting him in the back, then her and her backwards family harass the son of the man she KILLED. Why is this murderer still out on the street? I knew them both, I believe janet is/was the aggressor, not the man SHE KILLED!
