Repossessed Car Set on Fire in Lot, Destroying Numerous Vehicles

Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing with their investigation into locating the person or persons responsible for intentionally setting fire to a 2005 Dodge Neon. The 1:45 a.m. fire occurred at the Re-Po Company Auto Sales located in the 4500 block of Crain Highway.

The early morning fire was reported to the Charles County 911 Center by a passerby and brought approximately 18 firefighters from Waldorf and La Plata to the scene.

Investigators have determined the Neon recently had been repossessed and was parked inside a secured yard at the company. Deputy State Fire Marshals determined someone broke into the yard and intentionally set the Dodge Neon on fire. The ensuing fire spread to five other vehicles parked nearby. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the vehicles.

Deputy State Fire Marshals are seeking the publics help in identifying the person or persons responsible for the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call the “Maryland Arson Hotline” at 1-800-492-7529.
