The Blue Crabs looked to rebound Saturday night at Regency Furniture Stadium after blowing a late lead to Camden the night before. However, it was the Riversharks who jumped out to the early lead.

Camden put up a four-run lead by the fifth inning, spreading 12 hits against starter Ryan Bicondoa. Southern Maryland answered in the bottom of the fifth inning, with a run by captain Jeremy Owens on a Mike Just hit. In the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Crabs made it a game when Just hit a monster three-run home run over the left field wall to tie the game. Ken Harvey and Lance Burkhart scored on the home run after reaching base with a single and a fielder’s choice, respectively. Both starters picked up no decisions in the effort.

Bicondoa went six innings, giving up four runs. Tracy Thorpe went six innings, giving up only one run on five hits. Camden took the lead in the eighth inning when John Purdom scored on a throwing error by Harvey on a sacrifice bunt attempt. The Riversharks then added an insurance run in the ninth to bring the lead to two runs.

The game wasn’t over yet as the Blue Crabs loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning. Just then drew a one-out walk, to score Michael Tucker and cut the lead in half. However, the Crabs fell short again as Liu Rodriguez hit a warning-track, fly-ball out to end the game.

Felix Rodriguez (2-4) picked up the win in relief. Jason Blanton (0-1) got the loss, giving up a run in one inning of work. Tim Bittner held onto the Camden lead and picked up his second save. The final game of the series will be Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The Blue Crabs (16-12, 58-40) will send veteran-knuckleballer Joe Gannon (7-12, 5.80) to the mound looking to avoid the sweep against Camden (10-18, 43-55) left-hander Josh Brey (3-7, 4.75).
