In order to award both civilian and uniformed employees of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office who have demonstrated the highest level of work performance and achievement, Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron recently bestowed employee of the quarter status on three individuals.

Cameron recognized Deputy First Class Jason E. Maletto as the Deputy Sheriff of the First Quarter of 2009, Ms. Sarah Gray was recognized as Civilian of the Quarter and Correctional Officer William G. Wood for their dedication to the agency and the citizens of St. Mary’s County.

Deputy First Class Jason E. Maletto:

The award as presented stated that Dfc. Maletto has proven himself to be a valuable member of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. DFC Maletto was hired on September 12, 2003. He has received the Sheriff’s Office Meritorious Service Award for his performance of duty while being involved in an armed robbery on July 14, 2005. DFC Maletto takes pride in his work and is a
great asset to the agency. He is always at work ahead of schedule and can be requested at any time to handle additional tasks. DFC Maletto is always one of the first officers to volunteer for additional work.

One of his collateral duties consists of being a recruiter for the agency where he leads by example. He is also a member of the Sheriff’s Office Color Guard where he presents himself in an exemplary manner that reflects both on him and the agency. DFC Maletto always maintains himself, his uniform and equipment in the highest regards to professionalism. One of his greatest assets is his ability to communicate with his supervisors, fellow workers and the general public.

Ms. Sarah Gray:

Ms. Gray began employment with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on July 1, 2005. She has proven to be a reliable and dependable employee who is always trusted to get the job done. Ms. Gray is an excellent field training instructor for newly hired station clerks. She has successfully field trained two station clerks and continues to mentor them.

Ms. Gray’s greatest strengths are her ability to multi-task, her reliability and her willingness to assist in any way possible. She always arrives on time for work and is professionally attired. Ms. Gray routinely volunteers to cover open shifts to include holding over past her assigned shift and working on regularly scheduled days off. She has established herself as a team player and a leader. Ms. Gray is a self starter and motivator and has recently taken on a new task of ensuring all rules and regulations are being adhered to for the issuance of Bingo licenses. This task involves organizing, sending and tracking many letters to non-profit organizations to ensure that Sheriff’s Office received valid gaming reports.

Correctional Officer William G. Wood:

C/O Wood began his career as a correctional officer on December 7, 2007. He soon became a member of the Emergency Response Team and completed training on June 27, 2008. C/O Wood is reliable, punctual and career orientated. He voluntarily works overtime and is always willing to help no matter what the task. C/O Wood is passionate about his work and has organized central storage on numerous occasions while on midnight shift.

C/O Wood discovered hidden food items under a special diet tray during lunch. The intent was for the items to get placed into the Work Release Unit. This extra effort on C/O Wood’s part prevented contraband from being introduced into the unit and caused an inmate to be violated and removed from the kitchen area. On another occasion, C/O Wood found matches and an empty box of cigarettes in the kitchen while conducting a search. There have been several incidents wherein because of C/O Wood’s attention to detail he has assisted in preventing further violations to occur in the facility.
