UPDATE: Woman Killed in Mechanicsville Car Wreck

UPDATE - PRESS RELEASE:

On August 14 at approximately 3:40 p.m., the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to Chaptico Road in Chaptico, Maryland for a single motor vehicle collision.

A 1998 Ford Escort driven by Dawn Marie Buckler, 45 of Mechanicsville, was traveling southbound on Chaptico Road. The vehicle crossed the centerline and went off road on the northbound side. The vehicle then struck a mailbox for before continuing and striking a tree head on.

Buckler was pronounced dead at the scene. Members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation. The investigation is continuing.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors. Anyone who may have information or witnessed the crash is asked to contact DFC Timothy Reese at (301) 475-4200 ext. 9115.


TBN has a witness report that a vehicle following the crashed car stated that there was nothing apparently wrong with the vehicle and then it suddenly started to swerve and ran off the road and crashed into the tree.

The accident reconstruction team is on the scene and Chaptico Road is closed in the area of the accident. The deceased is said to be a female that resided locally. The official press release will be forthcoming after the family has been notified.


At approximately 3:40 p.m. a call went out for a single car accident in the 37000 block of Chaptico Road in Mechanicsville. There was a report of a car that had smashed into a tree with a serious entrapment and injury.

A report indicated that a physician passing by stopped and with other emergency workers on the scene, declared the crash victim deceased.

Units from Mechanicsville and Seventh District and police are at the scene.
