There was some great competition at the third annual Southern Maryland fire truck pull sponsored by the PAX River Rugby Team and Bay District Volunteer Fire Department. The event is held each year to benefit the Red Cross.

The fun, hotly contested event was held at Bay District Station 3 on South Shangri-La Dr. and went from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on August 15. There were seven teams that participated in the charity competition.

Each team had to pull a 36,000 pound (18 ton) fire truck 50 feet using up to 10 people per team. This year, the winners of the event were the PAX River Rugby Team with a final pull time of 18.78 seconds. The U.S. Marine Team came in second with a pull time of 19.03 seconds and third place were the Beach Bums with a pull time of 19.54 seconds.

One of the event's organizers, Joe Gould said, "The event raised over $1,000 while entertaining spectators and competitors alike. Everyone had a great time and they are looking forward to next year's event."
