For more than 175 years, pages have served the United States Congress. Currently, approximately 100 young men and women from across the nation serve as pages at any given time.  This year, Ms. Katie Morgan, a junior at Great Mills High School, is taking advantage of this great opportunity.

Katie, whose service as a student page runs from August 31, 2009 to January 22, 2010, is responsible for carrying documents between the House and Senate, Members’ offices, committees, and the Library of Congress; preparing the House and Senate chambers for each day’s business by distributing the Congressional Record and other documents related to the day’s agenda; and providing assistance in the cloakrooms and chambers.

“Katie is a responsible young woman who seems passionate about her government,” said Ms. Luanne Ruonavar, social studies department chairperson at Great Mills High School who nominated Katie for the page position.

All student pages must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher in the core academic subjects, and must be at least sixteen years old by the date they begin their term. For more information on the Congressional Page Program, visit http://pageprogram.house.gov/index.html.

Katie is the daughter of Jay and Annmarie Morgan of Great Mills, MD.
