UPDATE: On Friday morning, Oct. 9, Charles County Sheriff’s detectives located and arrested Edward Stanley Stewart, III, 23, of Bryantown, who was wanted in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on Old Washington Road last week.
Stewart was located in the 3800 block of Hemlock Place in Temple Hills after detectives received a tip that he may be staying at that address. He was arrested without incident and will be charged with first-degree rape.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant charging Edward Stanley Stewart, III, 23, of Bryantown, with sexually assaulting a woman in the parking lot of the Southern Maryland Business Office located at 3195 Old Washington Road in Waldorf. Detectives are searching for Stewart, who has not been located.
A preliminary investigation revealed on Sept. 30 at 11:45 p.m., the suspect approached the victim as she was entering her car and sexually assaulted her. The victim fought the suspect and he fled. The victim reported the assault later the next day and an investigation was immediately initiated.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that a patrol officer encountered the suspect sleeping on a bench, hours after the attack occurred. Although the attack had not yet been reported, officers took note of the encounter. Once the assault was reported, detectives quickly linked the suspect to the attack and further investigation led to an arrest warrant being obtained.
Stewart has a light complexion, stands about 5’9”, and has a slim to medium build. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts should call the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at (301) 932-2222.
