Bohanan Calls Town Hall Meetings
ST. MARY'S COUNTY - 11/22/2009
|
Delegate John L. Bohanan, Jr. is inviting St. Mary’s County citizens to town hall meetings in Legislative District 29-B. Bohanan plans to focus the discussion on the state budget and other issues that will be considered in the upcoming 2010 Legislative Session. Delegate Bohanan is specifically looking for ideas on how to further reduce the State’s General Fund budget. Bohanan said: “As the global recession continues to take its toll on government revenues everywhere, our State’s budget needs to be adjusted just as every household has had to do. How we allocate those funds and where we make additional reductions will be difficult decisions because we will not be raising taxes to achieve a balanced budget”. Bohanan serves as the House Chair of the Spending Affordability Committee that sets spending limits each year for the General Fund. He also chairs the Subcommittee on Education and Economic Development, which allocates funding for K-12 and all higher education in Maryland. Bohanan added: “putting together a balanced budget for next year will be particularly challenging, so I would like to hear from constituents on what our priorities should be with scarce funds available. The Governor has cut out over $3 bil. of planned spending, but much more will be cut. Wall Street once again gave Maryland a AAA bond rating within the past month, recognizing that we are one of the best fiscally managed states in the nation and we intend to continue that tradition”. Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held on the following dates and locations: Wednesday, December 2 – 2nd District Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad, Valley Lee Delegate Bohanan has been a member of the House of Delegates since 1999, representing southern St. Mary’s County – Legislative District 29-B. He serves on the Appropriations Committee where he chairs the Subcommittee on Education and Economic Development. |
