At 7:09 p.m. March 10, Timothy Cobbs, 21 of Piney Point, was driving a 2001 Hyundia Elantra Eastbound on Great Mills Road and failed to stop at a red signal light at the intersection of Carver Elementary School Road. The Hyundia then struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Margaret Ann Bell, 63 of Lexington Park. The Dodge was turning left from Carver Elementary School Road onto Great Mills road when it was struck by the Hyundia in the intersection at the driver's door. Two other juveniles ages 14 and 15 of Piney Point were also with Cobbs and were flown to Childrens' Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Margaret Bell suffered serious life threatening injuries and was flown to Prince Georges Shock Trauma Center and the front seat passenger James Bell Sr. received incapacitating injuries and was treated at St. Mary's Hospital. Timothy Cobbs was initially treated at St. Mary's Hospital but was later flown to Washington Hospital Center. Alcohol and drugs are being investigated as being a contributing circumstance in the collision on the part of Timothy Cobbs. Initial investigation was conducted by SDFC Eric Walker and SDFC Daniel Synder of St. Mary's Sheriff's Office. Follow up investigation was also conducted by the Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Investigative Team. |
