River Concert Summons Heroes, Celebrates Nation's Birthday
HISTORIC ST. MARY'S CITY - 7/2/2010
By Carrie Griffin Munn
As part of the annual River Concert Series hosted by St. Mary's College of Md., vistors were treated to a patriotic show Friday, July 2. The Chesapeake Orchestra led by Music Director Jeffrey Silberschlag offered "Summon the Heroes," a show featuring familiar works by John Williams, George Gershwin and Sousa.
The performance also included Brian Ganz, on piano, the Sax Quartet from "The President's Own Marine Band," and Young Artist Concerto Competition runner-up Ian Chaava. Welcoming all the Independence Day weekend festivities, the orchestra played as fireworks lit the sky over the St. Mary's River and earned the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' of the crowd.
The college's Townhouse Green was jam-packed with concertgoers of all ages. Many enjoyed a picnic or visted vendors offering a wide array of celebratory food and drink. A great time was had by all.
The River Concert Series continues throughout July, with performances each Friday. To find out more about, click here.
