Sheriff Mike Evans reminds residents and visitors that a crackdown on drunk and drugged driving is underway in Calvert County.

This initiative includes sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols along Md. Route 260 and 261 and surrounding roadways.  It is fully supported by grant funding received from the Maryland Highway Safety Office following a review of DUI arrest and crash location data.

“Four hundred and twenty-five motorists passed through an August 8 sobriety checkpoint on Breezy Point Road” stated Sheriff Evans. Twelve drivers were evaluated to determine the level of intoxication, and five motorists were arrested for DUI.  Five additional citations were issued to other motorists in the area with tag and vehicle violations detected by a license plate reader.

“Motorists can expect additional sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols in this area.  This effort is one of several initiatives that will direct enforcement through the mid-Atlantic region’s “Checkpoint StrikeForce” campaign,” added Sheriff Evans.
