Code Red is an emergency notification system. St. Mary’s County Government uses the system to alert residents in affected areas during emergencies. Emergencies are usually weather-related, but can include safety alerts.

Using an ultra high-speed telephone communication system, the Public Safety Department can telephone all or targeted areas of the county. The system is capable of dialing 60,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers a pre-recorded message describing the situations to a live person or an answering machine in the affected area possibly including instructions requiring action on the part of the recipient

Safeguard your personal safety and minimize property damage by signing up for Code Red and staying informed. Registration is free; log on to the St. Mary’s County Government’s website at and click on E-Notices and scroll to Emergency Notifications. Additional information is also listed.
