The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the report of suspicious activity that occurred on Friday, October 29 at 8:35 a.m. in which an 8-year-old girl reported she was walking to her school bus stop on Sir Michael Place and Kingsway Drive in White Plains when she observed a white cargo van parked on Sir Michael Place.

As she walked past the van, a male exited and began walking behind her. The girl began walking faster at which time the suspect tried to grab her arm. The girl said she ran a short distance and was able to get to her bus stop just as the bus was pulling up. After the girl got on the bus, she said the van drove away. The girl did not report the incident to anyone until the following day when she told her parents. There have been no reports of similar incidents.

As the Sheriff’s Office investigates, officers will increase patrols throughout the neighborhood.  The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind parents to talk to your children about safety. It is important they get a good description of anyone acting suspicious and to report suspicious activity immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at (301) 932-2222.
