Parent's Rights in the Special Education Process

St. Mary’s County Public Schools’ Partners for Success Resource Center for Families and Schools is offering a workshop for parents and teachers entitled Parents’ Basic Rights in the Special Education Process on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the Board of Education Meeting Room of the Central Administration Office at 23160 Moakley Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
This workshop will be presented by Missy Alexander, parent educator from the Parents’ Place of Maryland. Participants can expect to gain a better understanding of a parent’s role in the special education process; the importance of parental input and participation in a child’s education; an understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP); the new IEP requirements; evaluating and re-evaluating students; maintaining special education records; how to be an effective advocate for your child and an effective IEP team member; and how to resolve differences. This workshop is free but registration is required.
