Patient Flown from Lusby Crash: Route 4 Re-opened

Northbound Route 4 has been reopened following a serious crash in Lusby. Rescue crews arrived on the scene along Route 4 and Rousby Hall Road around 10:15 a.m. to discover two vehicles involved, a Green Ford Explorer and a gray four door sedan. The driver of the sedan was flown by MSP Trooper to Prince Georges Shock Trauma as a result of their injuries. Two additional patients were transported to local hospitals.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Authorities in Calvert County are on the scene of a serious crash in Lusby.

Rescue crews responded to report of an accident with injuries along Route 4 and Rousby Hall Road around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14. Crews arrived on the scene to discover two vehicles invovled and one patient trapped.

Northbound Route 4 is being shut down for accident investigation.

the word....
incompetent comes to mind for one of the drivers. the other one was in a bad place at the wrong time looking the wrong way! driving school for everyone. can't use weather as an excuse, blue sky and middle of the day, major highway.

Take your time & pay attention
Hopefully,people will just take their time and pay attention!!!! This intersection is a busy one, however, if people would just take their time and not be in such a hurry everyone can get home safely. I pray that the people involved have a speedy recovery and everyone can learn from this accident.

Interesting case in point...
Since drivers Ed was taken out of Maryland public schools and outsourced to private teaching schools... I wonder what the statstics are now for accidents in our area.. Are these acidents being caused by drivers not getting a well rounded education for driving by these private driving schools? Are they being taught correctly , even though there maybe guidlines that the state imposses on these schools.. I wonder how many people know these simple rules ( LAWS) of the road : v. Right turn on red after complete stop. v. Vehicle must come to complete stop at stop signs . v.At a four way stop - driver to the left has right of way. v. No cell phone use while driving. v. If its raining and wipers are in use headlights must be turned on. v. No passing on the right shoulder v. a various seatbelt laws regarding children - not being unrestrained v. Tailgating is reckless driving. And is a punishable violation. V Headlights must be dimmed (off hibeam) when overtaking or within site of other motorists( be it following or passing) once in site of the other vehicle.

At a four way stop - driver to the RIGHT has the right-of-way. Cell phones can be used...if using with a 'hands-free' device. Article 21, section 304: The following applies. A driver may pass on the right legally WITHOUT crossing the white line if the driver can do so safely and if there is enough pavement to allow for two or more lanes of traffic. In addition a driver may cross the white line and pass on the right to avoid a vehicle that is turning left.

I think you're wrong about the last one. In fact I know of people in Golden Beach that have been ticketed for passing on the right because someone was making a left turn. The rule is it is illegal to pass on the right if you have to "leave the roadway" including when there is a shoulder with a solid white line.
