The New Year brings new opportunities to enjoy art, history and a nippy dip in Calvert County.
Saturday, January 1 (1 to 3 p.m.)
Polar Bear Plunge

Take a dip in the icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay then enjoy hot apple cider and roast marshmallows over a roaring fire on the beach as you warm up.

The museum is open and free to the public from 5 to 8 p.m. with docents on hand to answer questions. Opening of “The Art of Healing the Chesapeake – A Tribute to Tom Wisner,” featuring a display of portraits by Tom Wisner and the student work he inspired. A benefit concert, “Chesapeake Bound: Remembering Tom’s Music,” performed by Teresa Whitaker and Frank Schwartz starts at 7 p.m. Donations will help support Chestory, the Wisner collection at the museum.

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., during this intergenerational community art project led by visiting artists.

Richard LaMotte is a recognized expert on sea glass. His book, with its incredible photographs, presents some of the best sea glass ever collected along with samples of the classical glassware that is often its source. His talk will be combined with a special focus on sea glass jewelry in the store. Attendees can bring their own sea glass samples for identification or have it made into customized jewelry – or choose a piece and have unique wearable sea glass art created for you.
