Explosive Device Placed in Resident's Mailbox

Maryland State Fire Marshal's along with the St. Mary's County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident in Leonardtown where an explosive device was intentionally placed in a mailbox.
Leonardtown firefighters responded to 42740 Medley's Neck Road on Jan. 3 around 5 p.m., after the owner reported an explosion in a mailbox. Investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) placed an improvised explosive device in a mailbox. The device detonated and caused damage to the mailbox.
