Top Doctors Named For Southern Maryland
1/12/2011
Southern Maryland Hospital is delighted to announce that eight of our physicians were recognized in the 2010 edition of Washingtonian magazine’s “Top Doctors” list.
The honorees are George B. Bren, MD (Cardiology), John P. Byrne, MD (Orthopedics), Benjamin H. Finder, MD (Breast Cancer Surgery), Patrick John Haugh, MD (Infectious Diseases), Andrew D. Howard, MD (Nephrology), Harvey Katzen, MD (Oncology-Hematology), Samir F. ShabShab, MD (Nephrology), and Philip Wisotsky, MD (Geriatrics).
“From the beginning, Southern Maryland Hospital has been committed to retaining and working with the best physicians in the area across the full spectrum of specialty medicine,” said hospital CEO Michael Chairamonte, MBA. “It was a key part of the vision of our founder, Dr. Francis P. Chiaramonte, and it is just as important today. We offer our sincere congratulations to these physicians.”
Each year, Washingtonian magazine sends surveys to thousands of local physicians, selected at random. The survey asks doctors to name the physicians to whom they would send members of their own family in each of a range of medical specialties. Over 1,300 physicians returned the questionnaires for the 2010 edition. Washingtonian magazine counted up the recommendations and adjusted them for geographic distribution before publishing the list. It is important to note that although 39 medical specialties are represented, only specialties in which patients choose their doctor are included. Specialties such as anesthesiology and emergency medicine, for example, are not eligible for the list.
