11-Year-Old Arrested Following Fight on School Bus

On February 24, 2011 at 12:26 p.m., TFC M. J. Pitcher responded to the intersection of Maryland Route 5 and Maryland Route 246 for a reported fight on a school bus.

Upon arrival contact was made with a female complainant, 30, of Lexington Park who advised she observed a female juvenile, 11, of Great Mills assaulting a female victim, 11, of Lexington Park while on the school bus. Based on information provided by all parties involved, the female juvenile was arrested for Second Degree Assault.

The juvenile was released on scene to a guardian pending further action by juvenile services

because the pigs think they have to stick their nose in everything, this girl will be seen as a criminal until she is 18. It's a school fight, and I seriously doubt that an 11 year old is strong enough to kill someone. Overreacting idiots.

You show yourself to be a true S.M.I.B "JohnnyCFord" You would rather the 11y/o whose parents MIGHT not have control over; get a slap on the hand from school (suspension) then to sit in front a juvenile justice and explain herself to them? Maybe being charged will set an example to the rest of the student body. And it goes to show your mentality by calling the police "pigs" Talk about "Overreacting."

I don't know. I agree with what happened and I don't. Yeah, arrest her to instill that fear in her. She's 11; Kids are not hard to scare. At the same time, though, she IS 11. Don't press charges on an 11 year old. If the parents don't have control over an 11 year old, they're either doing something wrong, there is something wrong with the kid, OR they can call in help for themselves. If they are good parents, they can figure it out. It's really a matter of where your ethics lie.

The only idiot I see around here is YOU JohnnyFord. What the Hell are you talking about when you say its only a school fight. These days a school fight leads to someone getting shot. You better WAKE up! This kid should be made to go to cousiling and visit a jail to see her future if she keeps up with what she is doing. Then the courts should go after the parents and hold them accountable also. To me your a young PUNK with a attitude against authority.

have an attitude against authority. I just believe that our school system should not be patrolled by the modern-day SS. And I seriously doubt that an 11-year-old girl has access to a gun. And as for the courts going after the parents, it is not their fault that the girl was fighting. I know children of complete pacifists that are regular fight-starters at school. And to me, you are an IGNORAMUS with an attitude against freedom. @I caught you, I am a SMIB and very proud of it. And I would rather our school buses not be turned into a police state with minor incidents turned into charges that could possibly ruin someone's life. They could've just threatened to arrest her, and that probably would've sufficed, as she is 11. My mentality towards the police is that there are too many crooked ones to make the others seem trustworthy, and that they stick their nose in things that do not require the attention of the officer of the law. A school administrator could've handled it. He**, even the bus driver could have handled it, since she's 30 and all and a lot bigger than 2 11-year-olds.

Hey Johnny, I toooo am a SMIB from at the town that you live in..BUT-there is a large problem, If that were your child that got severely hurt would you not want the police involved?????? We have a new generation of kids and lord forbid you try to punish them as a parent ,because the new kids today yell i'm calling the cops and parents just do not know were to turn, then all of a sudden the parents are charged for child abuse and spend thousands of dollars later . So now the system got its way, This is what has become of kids today.The parents today just let the kids do as they please. Next, school is not what it was back in the day. There is alot of bullying ,the teachers and couselors as well as the principals do not care, one less piece of paper work they have to fill out. There is a lack of communication, the pricipal you hardly ever see its the couselors you deal with. You gotta make an appointment with the principal.If there is a dress code for the students there should be a dress code for the teachers and pricipal also. I'm going through that right now. I just hope once again this did not happen at the local middle school that parents are upset about and have complained about for years and nothing has been done about this school. This school needs a hell of alot of help there and its time to form a Parent Association, so that parents join to address may problems in this school, theres bullying, lack of communication, I seen a teacher arguing with one of her students and I was appauld by that. Students are failing in large numbers and I can not believe the teachers are not getting help for the failing students. I hear from the teachers that the school is overwhelmed with students and they can not give one on one help to the students that are failing, I hear there is no detention center and no study hall or no one to run them. One excuse after another. As Parents we need to get together and kick the door down to the school board of education as many parents are upset. We need this school to improve drastically, We as parents do not want our kids at low grade schools with lack of professionals and low grade staff. Yes, the school does have some awesome teachers but we need all teachers and staff on board . THE LAW- NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, is that all students to succeed, so the school knows who the failing students are and refuse to get top notch officials involved as they claim its not their job to do so.They do not want the school to look bad. So its up to the parents to get the help in this school. We parents have had enough of this schools broken words concerning the failing students, its now time the parents form a possie in front of the school board of education to get the help in the school so that every child succeeds and the bullying and fighting stopped. Last year I seen two employees of this school teasing a down syndrome student and they know who they are. Thats when my knew the bullying just does not start at home it also starts in the schools I lost respect for that school when I seen that. If I could have beat the asses of the two employees that day and got a way with it they would have never teased another student.You know as well as I do if the teachers come to school in bad moods they take it out on the students. The MSA'S are coming lets seen how this school succeeds with the scores and I can bet to venture the scores are low. As I said, its up to the parents to voice the many needs and help of this school thats failing students.

I can say alot of bullying is going on in the schools. My child was bullied many times and the school done nothing. I was against my son fighting back. So finally when a child smackeded my son in the face for no apparent reason I got tired of it and nothing being done. So I finally had to tell my son to defend himself and fight back. Either, way he gets suspended for being a part of it and he didn't hit back and still got suspended so the only thing to do is fight back.

@JohnnyCFord thank you very much for your comment @I caught you this 11 y/o is my daughter and as far as us not having control over her oh we do had she not been bullied and the school did nothing then she would not have retaliated. And don't you worry about her having to sit in front of the juvenile justice because it will be thrown out of court and all charges dropped believe that. What you as well as anyone else that jumps to conclusions without knowing the reason why behind someones actions need to do is worry about you having to sit in front of your maker come judgement day. With that being said everyone gets tired at some point and when you try to do the right thing about it and get no where sometimes you have to take it to the next level to stop whatever the problem is on your own. You have to let people know that they cannot continue to harass you without something being done.

your comment was well said whisper. Too many stories on TBN lack content and they usually leave the reader to let their imagination run wild. States across the country are cracking down on adolescent bullying and sadly it took several tragic suicides to occur before it got national attention. I hope the issues surrounding your daughter and the school she attends are appropriately addressed. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that your daughter has been bullied at school. I dont understand why the school did nothing. with the rise of suicide among teenagers because of this very thing you would think the school would have done everything they could to prevent this altercation from happening. I am glad you child finally stood up for herself. Even though your child defended herself it will not dismiss the assault charge's. She assaulted someone. and thats the sad part about all of this. She wont have a record. she is a juvinile. She will have to go to DJJ and sit there and go to an anger mgmt. class as they will recommend as part of her punishment. Good luck with everything.

Once the bullying of your daughter is confirmed, DJJ should (if your daughter didn't already get her licks in on him and by the way I hope she wailed him a good one) make the bully stand on the front steps of the school and let the other child throw rotten tomatoes at him, in front of all the other school children. Might be an alternative. And I hope you pursue those within the school system responsible for ignoring your complaints and reports about the bullying. And for the inconsiderate criminals posting on this page, it would take a hog to call a police a pig. That smib must be a criminal at heart. The jails and prisons are full of cop haters. Go figure.

Whisper1207,please post here what school your child goes to. I want to start a Parent Association so that parents can form a voice to the school board of education to get help in the schools. Judy Blanco, look her up and read about her. She was bullied in the schools and nothing was done about it as its still going on. She came to the local schools to address this problem but we need more, we need professionals now in the schools to help the bullies and the kids that are being bullied. I'm willing to get as many parents together to form a possie and go to the School Board of Education every day if we need to ,so we can get help in these schools and trust me its not just the kids bullying and teasing each other the teachers are doing the same and I will take a polygraph test to what I have witnessed in the elementary school as well as the local middle school and the f-ed up part about it these teachers and principle got awat with what they did. You would not believe what I seen and dealt with. Yes,its sad.

Not Another one!
Let me get this straight, a State Trooper responds to a call for service, investigates the fight between two 11 year olds by talking to everyone involved, determines that a minor crime has occured, arrests the one he feels is at fault and eventually turns the kid over to a guardian. Juvenile services will take it from there and determine what the approporiate action will be. Now we have a citizen, JohnnyCFord, who decides to comment (which is his right) and calls the trooper a "Pig" and the "modern day SS." I'll assume (until I see evidence to the contrary) that we can count JohhnyCFord among the Cop-Haters that infect this board. I'm sure I'll hear from smcgirl22 any day now! By the way, good job to TFC Pitcher. There are lots of citizens of St Mary's County (me included) who appreciate the job that you and the Sheriffs deputies do every day! Thanks for being out there!

Like cops, this is true. I think they have too much power and I think that some of them abuse it. An 11 year old should not be arrested for defending herself against a bully. I appreciate what the ones who are not ignorant walking egos do to keep us safe. And it is also evident that they take things too far by looking at the story about the kid who may get 5 years in jail for pulling a fire alarm. Our whole system is based on filling a quota of arrests per every so often, and that causes people who have not commited a serious crime to be treated like murderers.

It wasn't difficult to see your dislike for Law enforcement. You call them "ignorant" yet you show your own ignorance by stating that there is a quota system in place. There is no such thing. Would you care to offer any proof or other evidence to back up your accusations? Try with something more than "I just know" As far as the kid who may get 5 years in jail for pulling the fire alarm. The police do not write the laws , our state government does that. The police don't set the terms for punishments, again, our elected officials do that. Your showing your total ignorance when you blame the police for something they do not control. Also, the police can't convict anyone of a crime, the States Attorney does that in a court of law. That's where the judges,juries and lawyers come into play. Last, you seem to equate the kid getting arrested for pulling the alarm with him being treated like a murderer. When I read the story, it said he was released to his parents. Is this hat you call being treated like a murderer? How ignorant is that?

I believe, that there is so much bullying in the schools today and it has got to stop. We parents must join together to stop this from every school. I believe that as voices we unite to stop this as every child deserves an education. We must fight as parents to get funds to put professionals in the schools to help the kids who are bullies as well as the kids who are being bullied. We can sit here and complain all day and it does nothing. I also believe that our county needs to start a "Scared Straight Program" so that parents can communicate with the sherriff's office to teach our unruly kids a lesson on what it is to be sent to jail. I'm all for this because kids just get away with alot these days and take no accountability for their actions. We have a new generation of kids.
