Yo Mamma's Coming To Prince Frederick
Prince Frederick, MD - 3/28/2011
By Dick Myers
Prince Frederick could be getting a new restaurant soon. The Calvert County Liquor Board on Thursday approved an On-Sale Beer, Wine and Liquor License for a new restaurant at the site of the closed Houligan’s Draft House & Eatery and before that Roberts Deli at 135 West Dares Beach Road.
The new restaurant will be called “Yo Mammas Chicken Wings & Barbecue” and will be a casual family restaurant featuring, naturally, chicken wings and barbecue ribs. In addition to the inside seating there are currently seven outside tables, four in the front and three on the side. The four front tables would be closed and the three outside would be for server-only service.
The operators of the new restaurant are not strangers to the Calvert County restaurant scene. The majority owner is Donald Gordon, who owns Stoney’s in Prince Frederick and formerly managed the Rod ‘N Reel in Chesapeake Beach. The minority owner and manager of the new restaurant is Gregory Buckler, Jr., who worked for Gordon at both Rod “N Reel and Stoney’s.
Gordon said he expected the liquor sales would only make up small portion of the business but would be a convenience to his customers. Board Chairman Allen Swann asked if the outside tables would be able to be observed from inside to monitor who was drinking. At Swann’s suggestion, Gordon agreed to install video cameras to be able to view those tables from inside.
The restaurant will need approval from the planning commission. Also the unanimous liquor board approval was contingent on their lawyer checking to see if Gordon could be majority owner of two license holders.
