The Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA) each year recognizes and honors music teachers for their outstanding service to the music students in public, parochial, or independent schools in the State of Maryland.  A teacher who receives this award has maintained a consistently high quality music program; contributed to the community and to the state through music; and contributed to the improvement of music by participating in professional organizations.  The teacher also must have students participating in honor groups, such as All-County or All-State; and have hosted student teachers, meetings, festivals, and presented workshops.  They have to maintain contact with their feeder system to ensure students continue in music, K-12.

Mrs. Kathy Frederick, music teacher at Leonardtown Middle School, is being recognized by MMEA for excellence in her field.  Mrs. Frederick is an outstanding music educator and represents St. Mary's County Public Schools within the state in choral music.
