Smoke at Charles County 9-1-1 Center Under Investigation
Charles County, MD - 7/25/2011
The Charles County Department of Emergency Services’ 9-1-1 Communications Center is currently investigating the cause of smoke within the facility, which may be due to a possible electrical or fire failure of the uninterrupted power supply. County staff is working with fire and rescue workers, Verizon representatives, and electricians, to identify and repair the problem.
At this time, the 9-1-1 Center continues to be operational. The Department is in the process of activating the backup 9-1-1 Center as a precautionary measure, due to forecasted storms this afternoon. Also, the Sheriff’s Office has deployed a backup mobile command post staffed with 9-1-1 dispatchers and call-takers.
