Hundreds Have a Gala Night in Chesapeake Beach
Chesapeake Beach, MD - 8/5/2011
By Marty Madden
The Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa hosted the 30th annual Cancer Crusade Celebration of Life Gala Thursday, Aug. 4. The several hundred in attendance savored food and drink, danced to both live and recorded music, and enjoyed the summer’s coolest night.
The casual event has become famous for its abundant food, including lobster, shrimp, crab, beef, pork and heavy hors d’oeuvres. At one time, the gala featured a dessert table. Recently, the event has had an entire room devoted to nothing but desserts, including cakes and chocolate-covered strawberries.
The Cancer Crusade Celebration of Life Gala has raised over $4 million in three decades, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
“Our goals are to exceed everybody’s expectations at each event and to eventually see cancer cured,” stated gala co-founder and host Gerald W. Donovan.
