The Pax River Raiders (PRR) Youth Football and Cheerleading League, football teams and cheer squads will be raising breast cancer awareness in the month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Many football players and cheerleaders will be wearing pink during the games to honor those who have battled cancer.
Just as professional NFL football players, PRR players will wear pink socks, wristbands, shoelaces, and mouth guards at all the games in the month of October. Cheerleaders will wear pink hair bows and use pink pompoms to support breast cancer awareness.
This is the second year the PRR has supported breast cancer awareness.  Each year they have hopes to double the awareness they bring to Southern Maryland.  This year they have stepped up the awareness by hosting a “Pink-Out” with all the parents, siblings, and spectators during the home games on October 2, 2011.  The All-Star Cheer Squad had special pink shirts made that reflected the PRR logo on the front and “We play for a cure” on the back. Also, the PRR showed their support with raising awareness by painting their end zones pink.  In addition, the PRR are allowing spectators to honor loved ones who have battled the disease by writing their initials on the playing field.  If anyone is interested in having initials of a loved one added to the field, please contact Harold Berg at
paxriverraiders@gmail.com.
The Pax River Raiders Youth Football League serves as a model club for St. Mary's County that provides a safe and fun environment, to teach sports fundamentals that insure a positive difference in the lives of children at the highest level of professionalism.
