First New Express Route Begins Monday, Nov. 7

Charles County commuters will have more options for riding to Washington, D.C., thanks to additional buses from Charles County, which were approved by the Maryland Board of Public Works on Wednesday, November 2.
 
The commuter bus service expansion adds 12 new "express routes" between Waldorf and Washington, D.C., a bus route that is getting more and more crowded. Approximately 62% of Charles County residents leave the county for work. The expanded routes will serve more than 800 more people.
 
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced today that the first of these express routes, Route 906 Express Commuter Bus from Charles County, will begin service effective on Monday, November 7, 2011.
 
Commissioner President Candice Quinn Kelly presented the $2,243,277 proposal to expand the current contract with Hanover-based Dillon's Bus Service for commuter buses between Charles County and Washington, D.C. The contract between Dillon's Bus Service and MTA will increase to a total of $26,297,892.
