Santa Visits Leonardtown
Leonardtown, Maryland - 11/29/2011
By Ryan DeGruy
On the evening of Friday, November 25, 2011, people young and old gathered from all around the area for the annual Christmas on the Square and Tree Lighting ceremony in Leonardtown, Maryland hosted by the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, Leonardtown Business Association, and the Commissioners of Leonardtown. This year's event has been estimated to be the largest crowd in the history of this event.
Crowds gathered throughout the evening to enjoy carriage, hay, sleigh, and fire truck rides around the square as well as attractions including a John Deere Tractor display, petting zoo, classic car display, and a gingerbread house as well as food, face painting, and crafts for the kids. Additionally, live perfomances were hosted around the square in Mrs. Claus’ Tent, Leonardtown Church of the Nazarene, and on the main stage by local performers.
The evening was topped off with a parade of ambulances and fire apparatus leading santa in to light the Christmas tree. Following the lighting, everyone was welcomed to meet with santa while taking pictures and giving him their Christmas wish list.
