STORM ALERT: Flood Warning in Charles, St. Mary's; Road Closures Reported

A flood warning has been issued for Charles County and St. Mary's County until 1:30am Thursday. Road closures have been reported in Charles County.
The Charles County Government reports Springhill Newtown Rd at Glen Albin Road, Mill Swamp Road are both closed as of late this afternoon. Popes Creek Rd. is open but with only one passable lane as mudslides have occured on both roads. At one point, there was only one passable lane on Bel Alton Newtown Road but the Department of Public Works was able to get both lanes open. Charles County warns residents that there is still high water on several roads. TheBAYNET has also learned that Billingsley Road, near Dutton's Bridge and Bumpy Oak Road in the area of the bridge over Mattawoman Creek have been closed due to flooding.
St. Mary's County is reporting flooding near Baptist Church Rd. in Chaptico. St. Mary's reported a traffic light out at Hollywood Rd. and Three Notch Rd., police were dispatched to direct traffic briefly before power was restored. Power was out to over 1,400 SMECO customers in Hollywood for nearly an hour but the power has been restored to most of those customers.
The rain is predicted to continue through the night before turning to a wintry mix and snow in the overnight hours. The greatest possibilities of snow are further west.
