On Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2:30am, TFC M. A. Moore responded to the Wawa located at Maryland Route 235 and Maryland Route 4 for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, TFC Moore accompanied by Tpr. E. R. Mersman surveyed the exterior and interior of the establishment attempting to locate an active disturbance. None were located. However, upon exiting the establishment, TFC Moore did observe a vehicle illegally parked in a space marked for use by Handicap Patrons. TFC Moore made contact with the vehicle observing it was occupied by two passengers but no driver. TFC Moore was unsuccessfully attempting to communicate with the passengers via a rolled up window when he observed in plain sight a handgun on the floor of the driver’s side. TFC Moore immediately opened the driver’s side door and obtained possession of the handgun for law enforcement safety. Alerted of the situation, Tpr. Mersman had the front passenger, Tevon Anthony Middleton, 22, of Barstow exit the vehicle. The rear passenger, Travis Arnaz Dawkins, 22, of Prince Frederick was assisted in exiting the vehicle, by Tpr. S. M. Morton. Both subjects were detained, separated and searched pending further investigation. Located as the operator of the vehicle, Devonte Saquan Claggett, 19, of Port Republic, was also held on the scene following further investigation. A search of the vehicle revealed another handgun that was seized. None of the subjects were willingly claiming ownership of the handguns, however, queries through NCIC and MGUN databases revealed that both handguns were involved in theft cases handled by Calvert County Sheriff’s Department. All three subjects were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Searches of their person revealed that Mr. Middleton and Mr. Dawkins were additionally in possession of CDS. All subjects were charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. (1182011657)
