UPDATE:
On January 28, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. two kayakers discovered a body in the water approximately 30 feet from shore at the Leonardtown Wharf located in Leonardtown, Maryland and notified police. Police units from Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded and confirmed the presence of a body. The Bureau of Criminal Investigations was notified and assumed the investigation.
The deceased was identified as Francis M. Barnes, age 53, of Hollywood, Maryland. Barnes had been reported as a missing person on January 24, 2012. The body was recovered and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation is continuing.
