Pole Down on Thompsons Corner Road

At 5:23PM a car struck a utility pole on the 27000 block of Thompsons Corner Road in Mechanicsville. One single occupant was transported to St. Mary's Hospital via ambulance. Pole and lines are down on the road.

SMECO is on the scene and the road will be closed for a few hours.

All poles should.....
....be made of steel to prevent these types of traffic delays. Some of us have places to be, things to do.

A deer was driving the car? Well, no wonder! They are not very good drivers at all.

Hitting the deer would have caused MUCH LESS damage to the car than the pole did...and the road would not have been closed until the pole was replaced.

What do they actually teach in driver's education these days?...besides how to negatively impact the flow of traffic (no use of turn signals, improper merge techniques, stopping where there are yield signs, failing to pull off the road for first responders...etc.).

Pole.....
magnet cars need to be degaussed. Take them down to Lexington Park and maybe someone will just steal it. Only in Souther Maryland can wood attract steel or what ever cars are made of now. Hopefully the do nothing county commission will fix this problem.

They fixed it. They put up another pole.

A wooden pole that will break upon impact. Not a steel pole that would cut the car and occupants in half.

Sorry your precious time was taken away from you by the pole being down. Then again, a steel pole would kill the driver and the state would close the road for accident reconstruction so you lose anyway.
