Cardin Praises DOJ for Investigating the Shooting Death of Unarmed Teenager

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today expressed full support for the U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the avoidable shooting death of Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012.  An unarmed Martin, 17, was shot in Sanford, FL on his way home from a convenience store by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

“I am pleased that the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice will join with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in investigating the tragic, avoidable shooting death of Trayvon Martin.  I also support the Justice Department’s decision to send the Community Relations Service to Sanford to help defuse tensions while the investigation is being conducted.  I join all Americans in wanting a full and complete investigation into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin to ensure that justice is served.”

Cardin is unbelievable. Once again, he attempts to insert himself into an issue that is beyond his juridiction. He must have a team on staff cranking this stuff out. Of course this matter needs to be investigated, but Cardin's statement is self-serving and attempts to draw attention to him. Whatever!

A better story might be "Why are both of the senators representing the great state of Maryland from the congressional district? Is our state so small that we can't find some diversity?"

Background
Just a little background info on this story:

The reason this case was escalated to the national was because the local police in FL refused to arrest the murderer, despite the mountain of evidence stacked up against him. It was only after mass protests in the local area that the Feds had to get involved.

From what I've seen, this case isn't about gun laws; it's about someone stalking and gunning down an unarmed kid, the local police refusing to do anything about it, and a community responding with justifiable outrage.

Get your facts straight! This is exactly what smibtard is talking about. The whole story, if you bothered to really read about it, reeks of loop holes and ambiguity of the Stand Your Ground law in FL, the controversial communication from the 911 tapes and yes probably racial profiling too.

The FL police (including the rest of the nation) would love nothing more then to arrest this murderer and see him pay for what he did. Yes I said murderer because IMO I think he is because a guy that big should have been able to subdue the kid (if there was cause to) without killing him but you just keep turning every story into anti-law enforcement argument instead of addressing the facts.

And for the record I'm not saying the FL police didn't make mistakes because for all we know they might have but stick to what's being reported instead of throwing your anti-police sewage all over the place.
